Draft EIS on Proposed SDS Available for Public Review

The Bureau of Reclamation is releasing the Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Southern Delivery System to the public this Friday, February 29, 2008. The Draft EIS is open for review and comment for sixty days.

To access the Draft EIS, Draft EIS Summary, or supporting technical documents please visit www.sdseis.com. The document is also available at local area libraries including the Buena Vista/North Chaffee County Library, the Cañon City Public Library, the Pikes Peak Library District  Penrose Library in Colorado Springs, the Pueblo City-County Library District, and the Woodruff Memorial Library in La Junta.

In early April, Reclamation will host a series of public open houses to present the Draft EIS to the public and answer questions. Comments will also be accepted at the open houses.

Comments must be provided in writing no later than Tuesday, April 29, 2008.

The Draft EIS describes and analyzes the potential effects of seven SDS Project alternatives, including a No Action Alternative, on environmental and human resources. It has been prepared in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. The Draft EIS and the accompanying technical reports (released last month) detail the studies conducted over the past several years. A preferred alternative is identified in the Draft EIS.
