For Release: February 11, 2008

The Bureau of Reclamation and the California Department of Fish and Game announce the availability of a joint document for the Proposed Meridian Farms Fish Screen Project (Project/Action); Draft Initial Study (IS) and Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND)/Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI).

Reclamation proposes to provide funds for the project under the Anadromous Fish Screen Program, part of the Central Valley Project Improvement Act, Section 3406 (b)(21).  The primary purpose of the Proposed Project/Action is to prevent entrainment of migrating, at-risk, native fish species by installing fish screen structures at the Company’s diversion facilities.  Funding through the Program would allow the Company to consolidate three existing Sacramento River diversions into two and installing state-of-the-art fish screens and conveyance systems.

The Draft IS/MND and EA/FONSI were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and California Environmental Quality Act and are available for a 30-day public review and comment period.  The draft documents are available online at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=1011.  If you encounter problems accessing documents online, please contact Ms. Lynnette Wirth at 916-978-5102 or lwirth@mp.usbr.gov.

Written comments on the draft documents must be received by close of business Monday, March 10, 2008.  Comments should be sent to Ms. Tamara LaFramboise, Bureau of Reclamation, MP-410, 2800 Cottage Way, Sacramento, CA 95825, or e-mailed to tlaframboise@mp.usbr.gov, or faxed to 916-978-5290.  For additional information or to request a copy of the documents, please contact Ms. LaFramboise at 916-978-5269, TDD 916-978-5608.
