For Release: February 05, 2008

The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) proposes to amend the Wellton-Mohawk Irrigation District's (District) water delivery contract to increase their water allocation for domestic use.

The proposal would authorize delivery of 12,000 acre-feet per year of the District's annual Colorado River water entitlement for domestic use. This amendment will increase the current allocation of 5,000 acre-feet for domestic use by allowing the conversion of converting 7,000 acre-feet of irrigation water to domestic use. This proposal will enable the District to have municipal and industrial water available to meet the water demands associated with the increased rate of residential, commercial, and industrial growth in their service area.

Reclamation has prepared an Environmental Assessment and a draft Finding of No Significant Impact on this proposal, and these documents are available for public comment. Copies of the documents are on the Yuma Area Office website, at www.usbr.gov/lc/yuma or are available by request to Mr. Julian DeSantiago, at (928) 343 8259 or E mail: jdesantiago@lc.usbr.gov . Comments will be accepted for 30 days.
