For Release: December 17, 2007

The Bureau of Reclamation has signed a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Environmental Assessment (EA) on the impacts of transferring title to the Newlands Project Headquarters and Maintenance Yard Facility out of Federal ownership to the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District (District).

The Newlands Project Headquarters and Maintenance Yard Facility is located in Fallon, Nevada. Since August 1972, Reclamation has leased the use of the Project Headquarters site to the District, which uses the site for their headquarters office, administration building, and operations and maintenance yard. Reclamation's decision on the Final EA is to convey to the District all right, title, and interest of the United States Government to the Newlands Project Headquarters and Maintenance Yard Facility. The District will receive title of 37.03 acres of land and Reclamation will retain 3.5 acres of land for its Fallon Field Office.

The Final EA and FONSI were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and are available at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=2903. To request a copy of the Final EA and FONSI or for more information on the project, please call Ms. Terri Edwards, Resource Division Manager, Lahontan Basin Area Office, at 775-884-8353 or email tedwards@mp.usbr.gov.
