Bureau of Reclamation Regional Director Bill McDonald will present two Water 2025 Challenge Grant awards to the Naches-Selah Irrigation District on December 6 in Spokane, Wash. The awards will be presented during the Washington State Water Resources Association annual conference at the Davenport Hotel.

"Reclamation received 103 applications for Water 2025 Challenge Grants in 2007, and 44 grants were awarded," said McDonald. "The competition was tough. Naches-Selah stood out because this irrigation district demonstrated it can offer the kind of water conservation innovations that are the focus of the Water 2025 Program."

A $102,000 Water 2025 Challenge Grant will help the irrigation district to line 3,000 feet of open, unlined canal with geomembrane liner. The project will save an estimated 230 acre-feet of water per year with a total estimated cost of $204,000.

A separate grant for $221,340 will help the irrigation district to install 5,800 feet of PVC pressure pipe. The project will save an estimated 360 acre-feet of water per year with a total estimated cost of $442,680.

The Water 2025 Challenge Grant Program funds projects that will make more efficient use of existing water supplies through water conservation, efficiency and water marketing projects. More information about the Water 2025 Program can be found at http://www.doi.gov/water2025/.
