A group of students attending the Centennial Job Corps Center in Nampa, Idaho, are joining the disaster relief efforts aimed at helping the victims of the California wildfires.

The six Job Corps students are putting their career training skills to good use by working in the food service area, providing hydration, setting up tents, preparing lunches, and loading and unloading thousands of pounds of food products to those in need.

Much of that food comes from the Cattlemen's Meat Company, a firm based in Montana that specializes in providing great tasting food in fire and disaster situations.

The Centennial Job Corps Center established a partnership program with the company the summer before Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf States. Job Corps students still play an active role in providing assistance in that part of the country as well as in areas hit by wildfires.

"We are very proud of our students," said Center Director Michelle Woods. "What they are doing is directly in line with our mission to educate and train youth with real-life experience while also giving something back to the community."

The students sent to California in support of the crews manning the fires include: Tatyana Carter, 18; Gustavo Estrada, 19; Jesse Fisher, 18; Kevin Hetrick, 20; Heather Lafontise, 20; and Daniel Stark, 20.

The Centennial Job Corps Center is celebrating its 10th anniversary at its present location in Nampa, Idaho, on October 31. The newer Center replaced the original Job Corps site in Marsing, Idaho, that was first built in 1965.
