For Release: October 15, 2007

The Bureau of Reclamation announces the availability of the Draft Stony Gorge Reservoir Fire Management Plan (FMP)/Environmental Assessment (EA). The Draft FMP/EA is being developed for the Northern California Area Office to guide a range of fire management activities permitted by policy at the Orland Project's Stony Gorge Reservoir lands, Glenn County, California, for a 10-year period.

The Draft FMP/EA emphasizes a program that uses fire suppression and prescribed fire activities to reduce hazards on Reclamation's Stony Gorge Reservoir lands and provide resource management benefits. When the FMP is completed, Stony Gorge Reservoir's fire management program will employ a variety of activities, with the assistance of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, and other wildland fire agencies, to accomplish land and resource management objectives and reduce the risk of fire.

The Draft EA was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, is available for a 15-day public review, and is available at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=2881. If you encounter problems accessing the website, please contact Ms. Lynnette Wirth at 916-978-5102 or e-mail lwirth@mp.usbr.gov.

For additional information or to request a copy of the Draft FMP/EA, please contact Ms. Basia Trout at 530-528-0512 or e-mail btrout@mp.usbr.gov. The documents may also be reviewed at Reclamation's Red Bluff Division Office, 22500 Altube Road, Red Bluff, California, 96080. Written comments should be received by close of business Tuesday, October 30, 2007, and should be sent to Ms. Trout, Bureau of Reclamation, at the above address.
