For Release: September 05, 2007

The Bureau of Reclamation is conducting a preliminary river diversion at the new American River Pumping Station, located at the Auburn Dam site, during the week of September 3, 2007.  This river diversion may be temporary for the purposes of testing the new pumping station.

The construction area will remain closed to rafters and other water enthusiasts as it poses a public safety threat with river hazards and construction equipment and personnel moving in and out of the area.  It is expected that the river will be fully open to the public at the conclusion of the site construction about January 2008.  Until that time, the public should not enter the construction site.
