For Release: August 29, 2007
The Bureau of Reclamation has prepared a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) on the impacts of allowing the City of Fernley (City) and Southwest Gas Corporation to cross a 60-foot-wide Reclamation irrigation canal easement. This easement for the TC1 canal is within Reclamations Newlands Project, which is located in Fernley, Nevada.
The City is proposing to construct a water treatment plant for City water supplies. The crossings of the TC1 canal easement are needed for installation of two culverts and short sections of a road extension, a road widening, and buried pipelines. Reclamation is requesting public comments on the canal crossings analyzed in the EA.
To request a copy of the EA or for more information, please call Mrs. Caryn Huntt DeCarlo, Natural Resources Specialist, at 775-884-8352. Written comments on the EA must be received by close of business Thursday, September 13, 2007, and should be sent to Mrs. Caryn Huntt DeCarlo, Bureau of Reclamation, 705 N. Plaza Street, Room 320, Carson City, NV 89701-4015, faxed to 775-882-7592, or e-mailed to chunttdecarlo@mp.usbr.gov.
