For Release: August 20, 2007

The Bureau of Reclamation announces the availability of the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and seven Draft Findings of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the proposed execution of seven San Luis Unit interim renewal water service contracts.  The proposed interim renewal contracts would continue delivery of Central Valley Project (CVP) water for a term of 26 months from expiration of the current long-term contracts and could deliver a combined total of up to 1,385,590 acre-feet of CVP water annually.  Reclamation anticipates signing a separate FONSI for each of the interim renewal contracts.

The Draft EA was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and is available for a 30-day public review and comment period.  Reclamation has tentatively determined that an Environmental Impact Statement is not required before entering into the proposed interim renewal contracts.  The EA and FONSIs are available at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=2824 .  The Final EA will address any substantive comments received during the comment period.

Water service contractors covered under these draft documents are the California Department of Fish and Game, City of Avenal, City of Coalinga, City of Huron, Panoche Water District, San Luis Water District, and Westlands Water District.  The draft interim renewal water service contracts are available at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/cvpia/3404c/lt_contracts/2007_int_cts/index.html.
