The Bureau of Reclamation plans to maintain releases of 1,750 cubic feet per second (cfs) from Yellowtail Dam to the Bighorn River through the month of August, according to Dan Jewell, Area Manager of Reclamation's Montana Area Office. Inflows to Yellowtail Reservoir (Bighorn Lake) continue to be well-below average, and the forecast for the remainder of the year shows little promise of improving. "Despite these dismal hydrologic conditions, we are in a much better position compared to this time last year because of our concerted efforts to conserve storage", Jewell noted. "We will have to wait and see what happens during August and September before determining if we will be deviating from 1,750 cfs for the remainder of the year."

Reclamation continues to work collaboratively with interested parties and stakeholders to address comprehensive resource issues associated with Yellowtail Dam and Reservoir through the Bighorn River System Long Term Issues Group.
