For Release: August 02, 2007

The Bureau of Reclamation announces that water supply allocations to agricultural, Municipal and Industrial contractors of the Friant Division, Central Valley Project (CVP) have increased from 60 percent to 65 percent on August 1, 2007. There are no allocation changes for other CVP contractors.

Reclamation re-evaluated the hydrologic conditions of the San Joaquin River basin, the daily operations of Millerton Lake, San Joaquin River releases, the water supply requests from the water contractors for the rest of the FY 2007 water year, and canal releases. Based on this evaluation, Reclamation determined that an increase in allocation would be warranted.

As of August 1, 2007, precipitation in the San Joaquin River Basin was 23.16 inches for the WY compared to 65.14 inches this time last year. The San Joaquin River produced an April - July natural river runoff of 431,000 acre feet, as a result Reclamation has increased the available water supply for the Friant Division Contractors. Effective August 1, 2007, the allocation for the Friant Division Contractors was increased to 65 percent Class 1 water and 0 percent Class 2 water.

The Friant Division deliveries for Water Year 2007 are projected to be 520,000 acre-feet or 42 percent of 1.25 million acre-feet, which is the Recent 5-Year Average Allocation.

Reclamation will continue to monitor hydrologic conditions and will announce updates to the CVP-wide allocations as conditions change.
