The Bureau of Reclamation will conduct drilling investigations at Yellowtail Dam starting in late August and continuing into November 2007, according to Montana Area Manager Dan Jewell.

Jewell said the drilling, which is being conducted through Reclamation's Safety of Dams Program, has been planned for some time and is an integral part of the agency's periodic facility condition evaluations. The work will involve drilling from the crest of the dam in the vicinity of the left abutment. No change in reservoir operations is anticipated as a result of the project.

Construction of Yellowtail Dam was completed in 1966. The dam is located on the Bighorn River about forty five miles west of Hardin, Montana, and is operated and maintained by Reclamation.

Questions concerning the modifications should be directed to Ms. Paula Holwegner of Reclamation's Montana Area Office at (406) 247-7300.
