Due to a very high fire danger, a fire restriction order has been declared for all Bureau of Reclamation lands within parts of Idaho and eastern Oregon. This will become effective on July 13, and will remain in effect until further notice.

Areas in Idaho include: Black Canyon Reservoir, the Montour Wildlife Management area, Lake Walcott, American Falls Reservoir, Ririe Reservoir, Lake Cascade, Little Wood Reservoir, Mann Creek Reservoir, Soldiers Meadow Reservoir, Lake Waha, and Reservoir A.

Areas in eastern Oregon include: Bully Creek Reservoir, Beulah Reservoir, Lake Owyhee, Phillips Lake, Warm Springs Reservoir, and Unity Reservoir. The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department has issued a fire ban at Unity Reservoir.

The activities that are restricted are: building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire or stove fire, except a fire within a developed recreation site and only within a steel or concrete fire ring; and smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.

"This fire restriction order is put in place to protect people's lives as well as valuable natural resources, private and government property," said Jerry Gregg, Snake River Area Office Manager with the Bureau of Reclamation.

Reclamation has several campgrounds in various parts of Idaho. For further information, please contact Krystal Clair, Outdoor Recreation Planner with the Bureau of Reclamation at (208) 383-2211.
