The Bureau of Reclamation awarded a $660,345 contract for the construction of a concrete bridge across the Tieton River, about 32 miles northwest of Yakima, Washington.

Award Construction, Inc., of Bellingham, Washington, was awarded the contract on September 8, 2004. Work on the project is expected to begin in early October and to be completed within 180 days.

The new bridge is needed to transport materials and supplies across the river year-round to maintain the fish screens and the Yakima-Tieton Dam and Diversion structure. The Yakima-Tieton Irrigation District is providing some of the funds for construction of the new bridge.

Award Construction will clear the area for final construction of the concrete bridge, build gutters, place pre-stressed concrete girders, and install traffic barriers.
