For Release: June 29, 2007

The Bureau of Reclamation is extending the comment period for the Draft Environmental Assessment/Initial Study (EA/IS) for the Conveyance of Refuge Water Supply. Written comments on the draft document must be received by close of business Monday, July 9, 2007. The Draft EA/IS was released for public review and comment on May 18, 2007, with comments initially due by Friday, June 29, 2007.

The Draft EA/IS evaluates alternatives that address infrastructure conditions that prevent reliable year-round water deliveries to the Mendota Wildlife Area in Central California and identifies and evaluates the potential environmental consequences of implementing the proposed alternatives. The Draft EA/IS was developed to meet the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Reclamation is the Federal lead agency for NEPA compliance, and the Central California Irrigation District is the CEQA lead agency.

Written comments can be mailed to Ms. Sam Cervantes, Bureau of Reclamation, 2800 Cottage Way, Sacramento, CA 95825, sent via e-mail to scervantes@mp.usbr.gov, or faxed to 916-978-5094.
