The Bureau of Reclamation has awarded the contract for modifications to Scofield Dam to Gerber Construction of Lehi, UT. The work is being done on behalf of the Carbon Water Conservancy District (CWCD). A preconstruction meeting for Scofield Dam takes place this week between Reclamation and the contractor to outline tasks related to Safety of Dams (SOD) and other work on the dam.

"This work furthers the effort of insuring Carbon County a safe facility and a reliable water source," said Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Robert Johnson.

Planned work includes replacing the spillway chute, replacing the gate house on the dam crest and replacing the highway bridge over dam. The SOD portion of the work costs $5.8 million dollars and is divided 85 percent Reclamation and 15 percent Carbon Water Conservancy District. The non-SOD portion of the work is being paid for by Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and the CWCD, with the latter paying $350,000 for control house and the former paying $670,000 for the highway work. The total cost of the modifications to Scofield Dam is approximately $7 million dollars. Work will begin in early July 2007 and conclude in spring 2009.
