For Release: June 08, 2007

The Bureau of Reclamation announces the availability of the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the construction of a conveyor over the Delta-Mendota Canal (DMC) at Mile Post 80.0 in Merced County.

Reclamation proposes to approve a permit for construction of a conveyor over the DMC by Triangle Rock Products, Inc. (Triangle).  The proposed project would make it possible for Triangle to transport materials over the DMC to their aggregate operation located on the opposite side of the DMC.  The conveyor would save time and money for transportation of aggregate materials over a road crossing.  Additionally, operational safety would be improved by eliminating the hauling of aggregate by truck across the existing canal bridge.

The Draft EA and FONSI were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and are available for a 30-day public review and comment period.  They are available at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=2746.  If you encounter problems accessing documents online, please contact Ms. Lynnette Wirth at 916-978-5102 or lwirth@mp.usbr.gov

Written comments on the Draft EA and FONSI should be received by close of business Tuesday, July 10, 2007.  Comments should be sent to Ms. Patti Clinton, Bureau of Reclamation, South-Central California Area Office, 1243 N Street, Fresno, CA 93721, or e-mailed to pclinton@mp.usbr.gov, or faxed to 559-487-5397.  For additional information or to request a copy of the Draft EA and FONSI, please contact Ms. Clinton at 559-487-5127, TDD 559-487-5933.  Copies of the Draft EA and FONSI may also be viewed at Reclamation's Fresno office.
