The Bureau of Reclamation is constructing 5.3 miles of single rail fence at Lake Cascade this summer to help identify federal property lines in an area that is experiencing rapid development and population growth. Lake Cascade, impounded by Cascade Dam, is located on the north fork of the Payette River about 25 miles southeast of Cascade, Idaho.

The single rail fence is esthetically designed to fit in with the local environment. It consists of 6-inch diameter posts with a top rail that is approximately 38 inches from the ground. The fencing will allow for walk through paths and snowmobile access gates. The fencing project is expected to be completed at the end of September 2007.

Areas to be fenced include:

" Eastern side of the Boulder Creek Conservation/Open Space area between Dawn Drive and the old railroad grade. " Northern side of the Gold Fork Conservation/Open Space area south of Westwind Lane between the old railroad grade and Old State Highway 55. " West side of the North Fork Arm in the Westwood Subdivision area east of West Mountain Road.

Work is already being done at the South West Senior Citizens Recreation Association Area, a peninsula that separates the north tributary of Boulder Creek and south tributary of Willow Creek Arm.

"The fencing will have minimal impact on wildlife movement and is low maintenance," said Scott Short, Reclamation Natural Resources Manager. "It will help to distinguish the boundary lines between Reclamation land and private property, and deter the use of off-road vehicles within undesignated areas on federal land."

Lake Cascade is a 17-mile long multi-purpose reservoir that is popular with recreationists while also serving a source of irrigation water to the Payette Division of the Boise Project.
