Media Contact: Jeffrey McCracken, 916-978-5100, 05/17/2007 19:50

For Release: May 17, 2007

The Bureau of Reclamation announces the release of the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Restroom Replacement and Trail Construction for the  San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area (SRA).

Reclamation proposes to approve the retrofit of restroom facilities and the construction of a connector trail at the SRA.  The California Department of Parks and Recreation manages the SRA and is handling the construction.  The restroom retrofits at the basalt campground and the San Luis Creek Day Use Area are needed to replace outdated facilities to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  The 1.5 mile new trail will also be ADA compliant and connect two existing trails around ONeil Forebay.

The Draft EA and FONSI were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and are available for public review and comment.  They are available at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=2725.  If you encounter problems accessing documents online, please contact Ms. Lynnette Wirth at 916-978-5102 or lwirth@mp.usbr.gov.

Written comments on the Draft EA and FONSI should be received by close of business Tuesday, June 5, 2007.  Comments should be sent to Ms. Judi Tapia, Bureau of Reclamation, South-Central California Area Office, 1243 N Street, Fresno, CA 93721, or e-mailed to jtapia@mp.usbr.gov.  For additional information or to request a copy of the documents, please contact Ms. Tapia at 559-487-5138, TDD 559-978-5608.
