Media Contact: Jack Simes, 928-343-8334

For Release: May 17, 2007

The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) has prepared a Programmatic Environmental Assessment (EA) for quarry operations along the lower Colorado River, as required by the National Environmental Policy Act and Reclamation regulations.

Reclamation proposes to establish two new quarry sites and access roads, and use or re-open existing quarries and their associated access roads to obtain necessary materials for Reclamation projects along the lower river. The area of analysis encompasses a 10-mile wide section of lands along the river corridor in the states of Nevada, California and Arizona, from Davis to Laguna Dams.

Copies of the programmatic EA and Draft Finding of No Significant Impact are available for review on Reclamation's website, at: www.usbr.gov/lc/yuma. Hard copies of the documents can be requested from Ms. Dedina Williams, in Reclamation's Yuma Area Office, by calling (928) 343-8149 or by E-mail at dwilliams@lc.usbr.gov. The comment period will end on June 16.
