Release of Draft Environmental Assessment and FONSI for the Contra Costa Canal Replacement Project

The Bureau of Reclamation announces the release of a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Contra Costa Canal Replacement Project, Contra Costa County, California. The Contra Costa Canal Replacement Project involves installing up to 3.97 miles of buried pipeline in place of the existing unlined portion of the Contra Costa Canal between Pumping Plant 1 and the trash rack near Rock Slough. The existing Contra Costa Canal will be backfilled in phases as the new pipeline is installed. The first construction phase is scheduled to begin in late 2007.

The Draft EA and FONSI were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and are now available for a public review and comment period. The Final Environmental Assessment will address any substantive comments received during the comment period.
