Media Contact: Jeffrey McCracken, 916-978-5100, jmccracken@mp.usbr.gov

For Release: April 10, 2007

The Bureau of Reclamation and the Cachuma Operation and Maintenance Board (COMB) will be preparing an Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (EIS/EIR) for the proposed construction of a second pipeline adjacent to the South Coast Conduit (SCC).  The second pipeline would increase the operational flexibility, reliability, and the conveyance capacity of the SCC, accommodate peak demand levels, and allow maintenance of the pipeline.

A Notice of Intent to prepare the EIS/EIR was published in the Federal Register on April 10, 2007, and the Notice of Preparation was filed with the California State Clearinghouse on April 9, 2007.  A public scoping meeting is being held to solicit public input on topics to be addressed in the environmental document, including resources to be evaluated, alternatives to be considered, and significant concerns and issues.  The structured format will begin with a brief presentation on the project and the processes for the National Environmental Policy Act and the California Environmental Quality Act.  The scoping meeting is scheduled:

Santa Barbara
Thursday, May 17, 2007
7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
COMB Office
