Reclamation's Western Colorado Area Office announced today the release of the Planning Report and Draft Environmental Impact Statement (PR/DEIS) for public review for the Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project (Project). The Project is a key element in the proposed settlement of the Navajo Nation water rights claims on the San Juan River in New Mexico. The Navajo Nation communities and the city of Gallup rely on a rapidly depleting ground water supply. The proposed Project will provide current and future domestic water needs for the Navajo Nation, Jicarilla Apache Nation, and the city of Gallup.

To review the PR/DEIS log onto www.usbr.gov/uc/rm/navajo/nav-gallup or call Rege Leach at 970-385-6553 to have a paper copy or CD mailed to you. Comments on the PR/DEIS are due by June 28, 2007. Send comments to 835 East 2nd Avenue, Suite 300, Durango CO 81301, navgal@uc.usbr.gov, or fax to 970-385-6539.
