For Release: March 27, 2007

The Bureau of Reclamation will be featured on The History Channel's Modern Marvels when they air a one-hour documentary on "Dams" on Wednesday, March 28, 2007.

One of the programs key segments will discuss the 1976 failure of Teton Dam in southwestern Idaho, what Reclamation has learned since that disaster, the technology Reclamation uses to prevent dam failure, and Reclamation's ongoing dam safety program.

Dam safety modifications at Stony Gorge Dam in northern California will also be featured. Computer modeling was developed by Reclamation employees to show how the dam would behave in a seismic event before and after the dam is modified.

The program will be telecast nationally on March 28, 2007 at 10 PM EDT/PDT on the History Channel, which is available only on cable or through satellite providers.
