For Release: March 23, 2007

Reclamation has released its Final Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for Aurora's requested long-term contract to facilitate storage and exchange in Fryingpan-Arkansas Project facilities. Both documents are accessible via Reclamations website at http://www.usbr.gov/gp/nepa/quarterly.cfm#ecao.

Reclamation has prepared the Final EA and accompanying FONSI in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. The document summarizes public and agency comments and resulting studies of possible environmental impacts resulting from the proposal. It concludes with a recommendation of a preferred alternative that allows for a contract of up to 40 years.

The City of Aurora's Utility Enterprise requested the long-term storage contract to facilitate exchange for its Arkansas River water rights. The contract will also help Aurora more efficiently manage its water.

To obtain a paper or CD copy of the Final EA and FONSI, please contact Kara Lamb at either (970) 962-4326 or at klamb@gp.usbr.gov.
