Components of New Building Arriving at Reclamation's Date/Fir Street Office Complex; Assembly to Begin

The first components for the Bureau of Reclamation's new 12,000-square-foot office building at its Date/Colorado/Fir Street complex in central Boulder City are on site and assembly of the building will begin soon.

The building, comprised of 13 mobile components, features an exterior design compatible with the nearby Boulder City Historic District. Reclamation is completing consultations with the State Historic Preservation Office on the building's final appearance to ensure it has no effect on the nearby historic district.

The building also incorporates energy-efficient heating and cooling systems and will use natural daylight to reduce the use of overhead and task lighting. The exterior concepts of the building will be made public when the artist renderings are available.

In July 2006, Reclamation awarded a $2.5 million contract to Chickasaw Nation Industries for the design, manufacture and construction of the single-story modular structure.

This building is being constructed as part of Reclamation's long-term effort to centralize its Regional Office workforce. After completion, the structure will house Reclamation employees now located in the Mead Building south of Boulder City.

Also located on the site is a water quality/soils testing laboratory, a fish research laboratory, and a boat storage and maintenance facility.
