Draft EA Available for the San Luis and Delta-Mendota Water Authority, and San Joaquin River Exchange Contractors Water Authority Substitute Water Exchange

The Bureau of Reclamation announces the availability of the Draft Environmental Assessment (Draft EA) entitled, San Luis and Delta-Mendota Water Authority, and San Joaquin River Exchange Contractors Water Authority Substitute Water Exchange.

Reclamation proposes to approve an exchange between the San Joaquin River Exchange Contractors  (Exchange Contractors) and five South of Delta Central Valley Project (CVP) Contractors:  Santa Clara Valley Water District, Zone 6 of San Benito County Water District, Del Puerto Water District, San Luis Water District, and Westlands Water District. 

More specifically, in exchange for the San Luis Delta Mendota Water Authority purchasing up to 11,000      acre-feet of water from Merced Irrigation District to meet the Exchange Contractors’ obligations under the    San Joaquin River Agreement, the Exchange Contractors would make available an equal amount of their CVP water supply to be delivered to the participating South of Delta CVP Contractors. 

The Draft EA has been prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and is available for a 15-day public review and comment period.  The Draft EA will be finalized upon conclusion of the public review period.  The document is available online at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=2608
