On Wednesday, April 4, and Thursday, April 5, 2007, the Bureau of Reclamation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency, and the California Department of Water Resources/Reclamation Board (the partner agencies) will sponsor the next two in a series of information meetings for interested members of the community who wish to learn more about operations and future improvements at Folsom Dam and Reservoir.  The first of these meetings was held on February 20, 2007, at the Folsom Community Center.

The primary purposes of the meetings are to:  (1) raise awareness among members of the surrounding communities regarding the scope of flood control, dam safety, and other construction projects planned or underway at Folsom Dam over the next 10-15 years and (2) provide community members an opportunity to share their thoughts and suggestions for consideration in completing these important projects.  The meetings will emphasize local interests and will be held at the following locations to focus on construction activities planned for the ‘Folsom side’ or the ‘Granite Bay side’ of the reservoir:

The partner agencies believe that the better the community understands the improvements to be made at Folsom Dam and Reservoir the better they will be able to participate in the process.  The publics’ comments and suggestions will aid the partner agencies as they work to complete the Folsom Dam Safety and Flood Damage Reduction (DS/FDR) Final Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (EIS/EIR) and the upcoming Record of Decision (ROD).

The Folsom DS/FDR Draft EIS/EIR was released for public review on November 30, 2006; the formal comment period closed on January 26, 2007.  The Final EIS/EIR is anticipated for release the end of March 2007.  At that time, the public will have an additional 30 days to make comments on the document before a final decision is made and the ROD is released.  All comments and suggestions received will be considered in the final decision process.

The Draft EIS/EIR may be viewed at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=1808; when the Final EIS/EIR is released, it will be available at the same website.  Additional information on the project may be viewed at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/jfp/index.html.  If assistance is required to attend the meetings or if further information is needed, please contact Mr. Shawn Oliver, Reclamation, at 916-989-7256 or soliver@mp.usbr.gov, or Mrs. Becky Victorine, USACE, at 916-557-5162 or Rebecca.a.victorine@usace.army.mil.
