Reclamation is seeking public comment on the recently released Draft Environmental Assessment for a Colorado River Water Conservation District contract request for water from Ruedi Reservoir. The draft document is accessible via Reclamation's website at www.usbr.gov/gp/nepa/quarterly.cfm#ecao.

Reclamation prepared the Draft EA in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. The document describes the proposal, the need for action, alternatives, and potential impacts that could result from the contract.

The River District requested the contract under Reclamation's water marketing program at Ruedi Reservoir. They plan to subcontract the water to third parties as a source of municipal, domestic, industrial, and agricultural supply. Until such demands develop, however, and under certain conditions, some of the water could be used to fulfill the River District's obligations under the Upper Colorado River Basin Endangered Fish Recovery Program and as temporary enhancement to instream winter flows in the Fryingpan River.

Reclamation is accepting public comment on the Draft EA until March 26, 2007. Comments must be received in writing via letter, fax, or e-mail. Please submit comments to: Carlie Ronca, Natural Resource Specialist, Bureau of Reclamation, 11056 W. CR 18E, Loveland, CO 80537; cronca@gp.usbr.gov; or fax (970) 663-3212.

For hard copy of the Draft EA, or questions related to Ruedi Reservoir, please contact Kara Lamb at either (970) 962-4326 or at klamb@gp.usbr.gov.
