For Release: February 20, 2007

The U.S. Department of the Interior - Bureau of Reclamation will hold four public hearings. The purpose of the hearings is to seek public comment regarding the Red River Valley Water Supply Project Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement (SDEIS). The SDEIS was jointly prepared by the Bureau of Reclamation and the State of North Dakota, represented by the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District.

The public hearings will provide an opportunity for verbal comment on the contents of the SDEIS. Requests to comment may be made at each hearing and speakers will be scheduled accordingly. Comments will be limited to 5 minutes and will be recorded by a court stenographer to be included as part of the hearing record.

The public hearings will be:

Tuesday, February 27, 2007, 7:00 p.m., Bismarck, North Dakota, Best Western Doublewood Inn, 1400 Interchange Avenue

Wednesday, February 28, 2007, 7:00 p.m., Fargo, North Dakota, Ramada Plaza Suites and Conference Center, 1635 42nd Street SW

Thursday, March 1, 2007, 7:00 p.m., Fort Yates, North Dakota, Prairie Knights Casino and Resort, 7932 Highway 24

Friday, March 2, 2007, 7:00 p.m., New Town, North Dakota, 4 Bears Casino and Lodge, Hidatsa/Arikara Room, 202 Frontage Road

In addition to accepting verbal comments at each of the public hearings, written comments may be submitted at the hearing or sent to Red River Valley Water Supply Project, Bureau of Reclamation, P.O. Box 1017, Bismarck, North Dakota, 58502-1017 by Monday, March 26, 2007.

The purpose of the environmental impact statement is to evaluate alternatives to meet the long-term water supply needs of the Red River Valley in North Dakota and three Minnesota cities. The SDEIS evaluates six alternatives; one no action and five action alternatives. Each project alternative would supplement existing water supplies with new or expanded use of water features in the Red River Basin or would import water from the Missouri River.

Please notify the Bureau of Reclamation 48 hours in advance if you require special accommodations for these hearings. Contact Patience Hurley at 701.250.4242 ext. 3107.
