For Release: February 14, 2007

On Tuesday, February 20, 2007, the Bureau of Reclamation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency (SAFCA), and the California Department of Water Resources/Reclamation Board will sponsor an information meeting with interested members of the community who wish to learn more about operations and future improvements at Folsom Dam and Reservoir

Mr. Mike Finnegan, Area Manager for Reclamation’s Central California Area Office headquartered at Folsom Dam, will lead the discussion with participation by the partner agencies.  This is the first in a series of neighbor-to-neighbor meetings with emphasis on local interests.  The primary purposes of the meetings are to:  (1) raise awareness among members of the surrounding communities regarding the scope of flood control, dam safety, and other construction projects planned or underway at Folsom Dam over the next 10-15 years and (2) provide community members an opportunity to share their thoughts and suggestions directly with the agencies’ resident manager for consideration in completing these important projects.

What:        Information Meeting and Discussion
When:       Tuesday, February 20, 2007, 6:30 to 9 p.m.
Where:      Folsom Community Center, 52 Natoma Street, Folsom, California
  Map

The partner agencies believe that an understanding by community members of operations and future improvements at Folsom Dam will prepare them to participate more fully in the process.  Most immediately, comments and suggests will aid the partner agencies as they work to complete the Folsom Dam Safety and Flood Damage Reduction (DS/FDR) Final Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (EIS/EIR) and the upcoming Record of Decision (ROD).

The Folsom Dam DS/FDR Draft EIS/EIR was released for public review on November 30, 2006; the formal comment period closed on January 26, 2007.  The partner agencies are now reviewing and developing responses to the comments received during the formal review period in preparation for the anticipated release of the Final EIS/EIR in late-March 2007.  At that time, the public will have an additional 30 days to make comments on the Final EIS/EIR before a decision is made and the ROD is released.  Comments and suggestions provided by local residents during this and other information meetings will also be considered in the decision process.

The Draft EIS/EIR may be viewed at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=1808.  Information on the Folsom Dam Joint Federal Project may be viewed at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/jfp/index.html.  For further information or if assistance is needed to attend the community meeting, please contact Mr. Shawn Oliver, Reclamation, at 916-989-7256 or soliver@mp.usbr.gov or Mrs. Becky Victorine, USACE, at 916-557-5162 or Rebecca.a.victorine@usace.army.mil.
