Media Contact: Jeffrey McCracken, 916-978-5100, 02/02/2007 03:32

For Release: February 02, 2007

The Bureau of Reclamation is preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) on the impacts of conveying title of the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District (District) headquarters real property to the District itself.  Reclamation is requesting public participation and comment in the environmental process to help identify any potential environmental issues, concerns, and alternatives that should be addressed in the EA.

The conveyance is authorized under Public Law 109-265, dated August 3, 2006.  The District headquarters is located in Fallon, Nevada, and is currently a feature of Reclamation’s Newlands Project.  The property is 40.53 acres in size with 37.03 acres -- including office, storage, and maintenance buildings -- to be transferred to the District.  Reclamation would retain the other 3.5 acres for the agency’s Fallon Field Office.

Written comments on the proposed title conveyance must be received by close of business on Wednesday, February 28, 2007, and should be mailed to Ms. Caryn Huntt DeCarlo, Bureau of Reclamation, 705 N. Plaza Street, Room 320, Carson City, NV 89701-4015, faxed to 775-882-7592, or e-mailed to chunttdecarlo@mp.usbr.gov.  For more information, please call Ms. Huntt DeCarlo at 775-884-8352.

There will be additional opportunities to comment on the title conveyance when the EA is released for a 30-day review period.  The EA will be mailed to individuals who request a copy and will be posted in the Beck Library Western Nevada Community College - Fallon Campus and the Churchill County Library, both located in Fallon.
