After completing seismic rehabilitation work at its historic Administration and Annex offices on Park Street and Nevada Highway in Boulder City, the Bureau of Reclamation is now doing similar rehabilitation on its Date Street office.

The building has been fenced to create a staging area for construction equipment and materials, and existing roofing shingles have been removed to expose the roof structure.

The rehabilitation work is part of the seismic safety program developed to Aassess the seismic safety of Reclamation-owned and -leased buildings and to mitigate unacceptable seismic risks in these buildings," said Civil Engineer Moses Moya, a Reclamation registered Professional Engineer (P.E.). "The work includes both seismic and safety upgrades to the facility that will provide a better working environment for Reclamation employees."

"We are making the building safer to work in, and should an earthquake occur, safe to get out of," said Reclamation Civil Engineer Bill Arndt, P.E.

Personnel previously housed in the building have been relocated to the Railroad Avenue Building and other facilities. The rehabilitation work is estimated to be completed in October 2007.
