For Release: December 19, 2006

The Visitor Center at Grand Coulee Dam will be closed on December 25, 2006, and January 1, 2007, according to officials at the Bureau of Reclamation. The normal winter hours of operation for the center are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Earlier this year, new exhibits were installed at the center. The exhibits interpret Grand Coulee's role as one of the main irrigation, flood control, and hydroelectric dams on the Columbia River. Exhibits also address the effects the dam has had on various groups of people, including Native Americans and early settlers. Many of the exhibits are hands-on, including a virtual tour of the dam by jet pack, an operating jackhammer, and an interactive game on operating the dam.

For more information on touring Grand Coulee Dam, contact the Visitor Center, P.O. Box 620, Grand Coulee, WA 99133-0620, or telephone (509) 633-9265.
