The Bureau of Reclamation's Mid-Pacific Regional Director, Kirk C. Rodgers, announces the selection of two Assistant Regional Directors. Mr. Frank Michny, previously the Regional Environmental Officer/Chief of the Division of Environmental Affairs, is now the Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services, and Ms. Katherine Thompson, previously the Regional Business Manager, is the new Assistant Regional Director for Support Services.

Technical Services includes the Special Projects Office and the Divisions of Environmental Affairs, Design and Construction, Resources Management, and Planning. Support Services includes the Human Resources Office; the Office of Safety, Health, and Security; and the Divisions of Financial Management; Information Technology; Acquisition; and Administrative Services.

Michny has 40 years of Federal service, to include 15 with Reclamation, 17 with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and 4 with the U.S. Navy. As the Regional Environmental Officer, Michny managed the implementation of programs associated with the Endangered Species Act and National Environmental Policy Act. He brings to the position a comprehensive background in water resources planning and compliance with associated statutory and regulatory requirements, as well as an understanding of legislative processes as they relate to Reclamation activities. Michny has been serving as Acting Assistant Regional Director since June 2006.

"We are extremely fortunate to be able to tap into Frank's extensive background in a variety of compliance and statutory areas to manage our technical offices and work the ranges from planning to construction design to resources management," commented Regional Director Rodgers.

Thompson has 26 years of Government service, including serving as the program lead for the national Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund Program evaluations, and EPA project manager for evaluating national and regional programs, policy, and projects such as that of the water discharge program, Clean Air Act grants, Superfund environmental data quality, and enforcement system software development. She was also previously employed by the Army Audit Agency as both a Program Manager and Audit Supervisor. "Katherine's expertise in improving efficiency of services and developing improvement strategies for issues such as reliability of data without significant cost increases will be an excellent asset to the Region," said Rodgers.

Both Michny and Thompson begin their new positions effective immediately.
