Reclamation Commissioner John Keys Presents Water 2025 Challenge Grant Awards to Yuma Water Districts

Yuma, Ariz.--Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner John Keys today presented Water 2025 Challenge Grants to the Gila Gravity Main Canal Board and the Yuma County Water Users' Association during a brief ceremony in Yuma.
The Gila Gravity Main Canal Board received a $284,000 grant, and the Yuma County Water Users' Association received a $246,221 grant. Together, the two projects will save up to 65,000 acre-feet of Colorado River water a year.
"I'm pleased to be here to recognize these projects, which are accelerating on-the-ground water conservation in the Yuma area," Keys said.
"Water is our most precious resource. The projects we have recognized today are great examples of the spirit of the Water 2025 Challenge Grant program, which supports partnerships that offer innovative, locally-managed solutions to our most pressing water challenges."
Following a briefing by the two entities about their projects, Keys visited several of the sites where the YCWUA will use its grant funds to help improve its system.
The Water 2025 Challenge Grants -- administered by the Bureau of Reclamation -- provide local irrigation districts throughout the West with matching funds to support a variety of projects to make more efficient use of existing water supplies through water conservation, efficiency, and water market projects.
