Media Contact: Jeffrey S. McCracken, 916-978-5100

For Release: December 04, 2006

The Bureau of Reclamation has filed the Final Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (EIS/EIR) for the South Delta Improvements Program (SDIP) with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and has made the document available to the public. Reclamation, along with the California Department of Water Resources (DWR), prepared the Final EIS/EIR pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act and the California Environmental Quality Act to evaluate alternatives for the proposed project. The SDIP consists of a physical/structural component combined with an operational component designed to meet the purpose of providing increased operational flexibility and the ability to respond to real-time fish conditions while improving water supply reliability.

A final decision, which will be documented in a Record of Decision (ROD), will be made at least 30 days after the Notice of Availability is published in the Federal Register. The ROD will identify the recommended action to be implemented and include the environmental commitments and mitigation measures to be applied to the action.
