Work Group Will Meet to Discuss Glen Canyon Dam Operations and Downstream Resources

Issues related to the operation of Glen Canyon Dam and ongoing monitoring of downstream resources will be discussed at the upcoming Adaptive Management Work Group (AMWG) meetings in Phoenix, Ariz., on Dec. 5-6. The meetings are in conjunction with the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program (AMP), which maintains a process of experimentation, monitoring and evaluation concerning the effects of the dam on downstream resources.
The AMWG will receive information on the development and implementation of a Long-Term Experimental Plan for operational activities at Glen Canyon Dam; discuss basin hydrology, humpback chub recovery efforts, potential beach habitat building flows in FY07, budget development for FY08, and other related issues. Several agenda items will be voted on and potentially developed into recommendations for the Secretary of the Interior. The meetings are open to the public.
The AMWG is a Federal Advisory Committee appointed by the Secretary of the Interior with representatives from federal agencies, Colorado River basin states, Native American tribal governments, environmental groups, recreation interests and contractors for federal power from Glen Canyon Dam. The AMWG makes it possible for the Secretary to receive recommendations from these varied stakeholder interests on how to best protect downstream resources and balance river operations.
The meetings will be held at the Fiesta Inn Resort, 2100 South Priest Drive, Encantada Ballroom, Tempe, Ariz., from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the first day and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the second day.
