For Release: November 17, 2006

The Bureau of Reclamation has released for public review and comment a proposed form of a contract amendment for 28 long-term water service contracts in the Friant Division of the Central Valley Project. Four articles in each of the 28 existing water service contracts will be amended to conform with the terms and conditions of a settlement agreement approved by the U.S. District Court in Sacramento, California, on October 23, 2006. The agreement ends an 18-year legal dispute over the operation of Friant Dam and resolves longstanding legal claims brought by a coalition of conservation and fishing groups led by the Natural Resources Defense Council.

The amendment may be viewed at www.usbr.gov/mp/cvpia/3404c/lt_contracts/amend_cts/index.html. For questions or to request paper copies of the contract amendment, please contact Mr. Ray Sahlberg at 916-978-5249 or e-mail rsahlberg@mp.usbr.gov . Written comments must be received by close of business Tuesday, January 16, 2007, and should be sent to Ms. Leslie Barbre, Bureau of Reclamation, 2800 Cottage Way, MP-440, Sacramento, CA 95825.
