A revised draft Environmental Assessment (EA) on a proposal by the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department to build a new marina at Lake Pleasant was released today by the Bureau of Reclamation for public review and comment.

Reclamation issued an initial draft EA for public comment and review in July. In preparing responses to comments received on that draft, Reclamation discovered errors had been made in gathering data on actual watercraft usage of Lake Pleasant. Those data were used to estimate current and future watercraft use on the lake.

Due to the discrepancy between the original estimated current watercraft use, identified in the July draft EA, and the corrected estimated current watercraft use, Reclamation decided to issue a revised draft EA for another public review and comment period. This revised draft EA also reflects changes made in response to comments that were received on the July draft EA.

The revised draft EA may be viewed on the Phoenix Area Office website at http://www.usbr.gov/lc/phoenix/ or a hard copy can be obtained by calling the Environmental Resource Management Division at 623-773-6251 or e-mailing rkonst@lc.usbr.gov .

Written comments on this draft EA will be accepted by Reclamation until November 17, 2006. Comments should be mailed to Reclamation's Phoenix Area Office, PXAO-1500, 6150 West Thunderbird Rd., Glendale AZ 85306-4001. Comments may also be faxed to Reclamation at 623-773-6481.

Comments submitted on the July 2006 draft EA do not have to be re-submitted for consideration. All comments received during both public review and comments periods, and Reclamation's responses, will be included in a final EA.

The proposed marina would be constructed on approximately 164 acres of land at Scorpion Bay on the western shore of Lake Pleasant Regional Park. It would be a full-service marina with a boating supply store; 800 wet slips; parking for up to 800 vehicles; public access boat launch ramp; and a building for boat storage and repairs.
