Historic Agreement Ends Years of Litigation and Uncertainty Over the Future of the River and Thousands of Central Valley Farms

WHO:
The Bureau of Reclamation, the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Friant Water Users Authority

WHAT:
Will hold a press conference to announce an agreement that will restore a 153-mile stretch of the San Joaquin
 River in California’s Central Valley.  Restoring the San Joaquin River will be one of the largest river
 restoration projects in the nation’s history.

From Fresno and points south, take Highway 41 north to Friant Road. Take the Friant Road off-ramp and turn right (northeast) onto Friant Road. Follow Friant Road to and through the town of Friant, where the highway name changes to Millerton Road. Access to the news conference site will be through the dam’s old main entrance off Millerton Road, a short distance east of the Friant-Kern Canal.

From Madera and points north, take Cleveland Avenue eastbound from Freeway 99 to Highway 145 on the east side of Madera. Turn left (eastbound) on Highway 145. At Highway 41, continue straight ahead (eastbound) to North Fork Road. There, turn right (southbound) to Friant. After crossing the San Joaquin River, turn left (eastbound) onto Millerton Road. Access to the news conference site will be through the dam’s old main entrance off Millerton Road, a short distance east of the Friant-Kern Canal.
