For Release: August 30, 2004

Reclamation has released for public comment a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for proposed construction of the Tisdale Pumping Plant Positive Barrier Fish Screen Project (Project). The Project's purpose is to eliminate significant impacts to fish inhabiting the Sacramento River resulting from entrainment losses at the unscreened Tisdale Diversion, while continuing to provide a reliable water supply to Sutter Mutual Water Company.

The Project, to be funded in part by the Anadromous Fish Screen Program (AFSP), will work towards fulfilling the fishery requirements of the Central Valley Project Improvement Act (CVPIA). The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in coordination with Reclamation, has the lead in acting for the Secretary of the Interior in implementing the AFSP

The Draft EA and FONSI are available for a 30-day comment period that ends September 30, 2004. Copies of the documents are available online at: www.mp.usbr.gov/nepa/ under Regional Office. As required by the National Environmental Policy Act, the Draft EA describes the potential environmental impacts, beneficial and adverse, associated with the proposed alternatives.

Written comments should be sent to the Bureau of Reclamation, Anadromous Fish Screen Project Manager, MP-410, 2800 Cottage Way, Sacramento, CA 95825-1898. For additional information or to request the draft documents on CD, contact Mary Grim at 916-978-5204 (TDD 916-978-5606), or via email at: mgrim@mp.usbr.gov.
