For Release: July 18, 2006

The Bureau of Reclamation is seeking comments by August 11 on a Draft Environmental Assessment for an access road easement across Reclamation administered lands at Prineville Reservoir located near Prineville, Ore.

Reclamation has received a request from the Land Acquisition and Development Company of Fox, Ore., for the access easement. Following review of the applicant's request, Reclamation will decide either to grant or deny access.

The applicant intends to develop a housing subdivision on 75 acres of its privately owned and undeveloped land beyond Reclamation's boundary. The requested easement is the only way to access this property, known as Indian Rock Estates, Phase II.

The easement request seeks access to an area approximately 100 feet wide and 330 feet long which will be used to connect the planned development of 16 lots with southeast Juniper Canyon Road on the north side of Prineville Reservoir. The easement request amounts to an area of less than an acre in size on a steep slope.

The results of the EA will be considered by Reclamation in determining whether to grant or deny the easement. The Draft EA is on the Internet at: www.usbr.gov/pn/programs/ea/oregon/indianrock/index.html.

In Prineville, printed copies are available at the Crook County Public Library and the Bend Public Library. Copies also are available at Reclamation offices in Portland, Ore. and Boise, Idaho. To obtain a copy of the Draft EA or a CD of the document, contact Tanya Sommer, Lower Columbia Area Office, Bureau of Reclamation, 1201 NE Lloyd Boulevard, Suite 750, Portland OR 97232. Ms. Sommer may be reached by phone at (503) 872-2846.
