As part of a long-term effort to centralize its Boulder City workforce, the Bureau of Reclamation plans to establish a 14,300 square-foot office building in central Boulder City.

Recently Reclamation contracted with Chickasaw Nation Industries of McKinney, Texas, to design, manufacture and construct the single-story modular structure under a contract valued in excess of $2 million. The facility will be located on a 17-acre parcel of Reclamation land between Date and Fir Streets. The land, which has housed federal employees since 1941, has been the location of the agency's water and power operations offices, warehouse space, and other facilities since 1984.

Recycled materials will be used in the building's construction, and it will incorporate energy-efficient heating and cooling systems and use natural daylight to reduce the use of overhead and task lighting. It also will have a conference center to accommodate conferences and meetings of up to 250 participants. Additionally, the exterior design of the building will be compatible with the nearby Boulder City Historic District; the exterior design will be available for review prior to approval.

Some Reclamation employees now located near the Mead Substation south of Boulder City will move to this new facility after it is completion, projected for February 2007.

Also located on the site are recently-constructed water quality/soils testing lab, a fish research shop, and a boat storage and maintenance facility.

The Bureau of Reclamation, an agency of the U.S. Department of the Interior, constructed Boulder City as part of the Boulder Canyon Project to house the employees and workers building Hoover Dam. Reclamation has maintained office space in Boulder City since 1931; currently, Reclamation employees are located at four primary sites around the City.
