Media Contact: Jeffrey McCracken, 916-978-5100, 07/17/2006 16:48

For Release: July 17, 2006

The Bureau of Reclamation today announced the availability of the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for The Inclusion of Bailey Estates to Contra Costa Water District (CCWD) to allow deliveries of Central Valley Project (CVP) water to these 103.56 acres of land. Reclamation's role is to review the inclusion pursuant to Article 35 of CCWD's CVP contract.

Reclamation's review involves evaluating whether the use of CVP water within the CCWD would be contrary to the terms of the contract; be contrary to Reclamation law; impair the ability of the contractor to pay for CVP water furnished under the contract or to pay for any federally constructed facilities for which the contractor is responsible; and/or have an impact on any CVP water rights applications, permits, or licenses.

The Draft EA and FONSI have been prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and are available for a 30-day public review. The documents are available online at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa; select SCCAO and scroll to the Draft EA and FONSI. If you encounter problems accessing documents online, please contact Ms. Lynnette Wirth at 916-978-5102 or e-mail lwirth@mp.usbr.gov.

The Draft EA and FONSI will be finalized upon conclusion of consultation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the California State Historic Preservation Office. To request a copy of the draft documents, please contact Ms. Lynne Silva at 559-487-5807 or e-mail lsilva@mp.usbr.gov. Comments are due to Ms. Silva by close of business Tuesday, August 15, 2006.
