Decreased Releases Planned for Lower American River for July 4th Weekend

Media Contact: Jeffrey McCracken, 916-978-5100, jmccracken@mp.usbr.gov

For Release: June 30, 2006

The Bureau of Reclamation has decreased releases to the Lower American River below Nimbus Dam to 4,000 cubic feet per second. These flows will be maintained through the July 4th holiday weekend. Releases continue to be higher than normal for this time of year due to high Folsom Reservoir storage and higher than normal reservoir inflows. After July 4th, Reclamations intent is to maintain flows at lower levels; however, if conditions change, increased releases may be required. It is estimated that flows on the Lower American River will be greater than normal throughout the summer months.

Recreationists on or along the Lower American River are advised to exercise caution due to the cold river temperatures and higher river flow conditions.
