The Bureau of Reclamation awarded a $4,553,974 contract for major maintenance work at Seminoe and Kortes dams in south central Wyoming. Both dams are on the North Platte River and are part of a series of facilities which control and store water on the river for irrigation, power generation, flood control, recreation and other purposes.

Bureau of Reclamation Acting Commissioner William Rinne said, "This contract reflects Reclamation's commitment to maintaining its facilities so they continue to reliably fulfill their purpose of storing and delivering water and producing power."

The contract was awarded to Alltech Engineering Corporation, a small business firm headquartered in Mendota Heights, Minn.

The contractor's work, which is expected to begin in early July, will include rehabilitating gates and coating the penstocks at both dams. Three gate assemblies at each dam will be repaired and their water-bearing metal surfaces will be coated. The interior surfaces of the three penstocks at each dam will be prepared and then coated.

The gates control the flow of water into the penstocks, which carry water into powerplant generators at each dam. Work is expected to take about three years.
