For Release: June 15, 2006

The Bureau of Reclamation has signed a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Army Corps of Engineers' June 2005 Final Environmental Assessment (EA) entitled, "McCarran Ranch Truckee River 1135 Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Project, Washoe and Storey Counties, Nevada." Reclamation is proposing to partially fund the restoration project, and therefore, has adopted the EA with the addition of technical and administrative clarifications and some minor modifications.

The EA evaluates river, riparian, and wetland restoration activities at McCarran Ranch, which is owned by The Nature Conservancy. The Reclamation FONSI concludes that the proposed restoration project would not result in any significant adverse effects on the environment and does not require the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement. The draft FONSI was circulated for a 30-day public review in May 2006.
