For Release: May 11, 2006

The Bureau of Reclamation today announced that the Central Valley Project (CVP) allocation will be 100 percent for all water users for Water Year 2006.

Although Reclamation uses a conservative forecast to determine the water supply available for the CVP water users (90-percent forecast), extremely wet conditions and high runoff through the end of April have rendered sufficient water available to make 100-percent of contractual obligations available to CVP South of Delta agricultural water service contractors. This is the first time in 10 years that a 100-percent allocation of water supplies has been available to South of Delta agricultural contractors. The 5-year historic average for CVP South of Delta agricultural water service contractors is 70-percent.

The water year for the Trinity River instream flow release is classified as extremely wet with a water supply allocation of 815,000 acre-feet.

The Friant Division deliveries for Water Year 2006 are projected to be 1.5 million acre-feet. or 100 percent of the historic water supply of 1.5 million acre-feet. As of May 10, 2006, the allocation for Friant Division contractors is 100-percent Class 1 water.

The projected Friant Division delivery of 1.5 million acre-feet is based on the California Department of Water Resources 50-percent exceedence forecast. Through May 10, 2006, precipitation in the San Joaquin River watershed was 60.09 inches compared to 55.28 inches this time last year.

The CVP Cross Valley Canal Contractors water supply allocation also increases to 100 percent. This water supply is dependent upon adequate capacity being available at the State Water Projects Banks Pumping Plant to convey the water.

Throughout the precipitation season, updated information will be provided as conditions warrant.
